About Bill Glover.
Bill Glover was born in Winnipeg. He graduated from Queen’s University with an Honours BA in History. His MA and PhD are from the University of London, where he attended King's College. He is a retired naval officer and a maritime historian.
His naval career included serving at sea on both the Atlantic and Pacific. He taught history and political science at Royal Roads Military College for five years. He was then appointed to the armed forces Directorate of History at National Defence Headquarters. He has also taught at the Royal Military College in Kingston.
He has published on both Canadian naval history and the history of navigation and hydrography. He edited The Northern Mariner/Le marin du nord for five years. In 2004 he organized the centenary historical conference for the Canadian Hydrographic Service. He edited the proceedings for publication by McGill Queen’s University Press as Charting Northern Waters.
He chose to reside in Kingston because of longstanding family connections, and his desire to live in a vibrant and attractive waterfront city of both reasonable scale and great potential.
Shortly after moving to Kingston he became involved in neighbourhood matters. He was elected to the board of the Sydenham District Association (then known as the Sydenham Ward Tenants’ and Ratepayers’ Association or SWTRA) and represented them on several municipal committees. He also served as vice chair and then chair of the association.
He was first elected as the councillor for Sydenham District in November 2006. He was re-elected for a second four-year term in October 2010.
