Near campus neighbourhoods.

At the March meeting of the Arts, Recreation and Community Policies Committee (which I chair) we approved for recommendation to council the structure and mandate for a Near Campus Neighbourhoods Advisory Committee. Last September I had seconded Mark Gerretsen’s motion calling on staff to bring forward terms of reference for such a committee. It was meant to build on the experience of the City (staff)/Queen’s working groups, themselves the result of my November, 2007 motion.

In September we believed the time had come to expand both the membership and the scope from just Queen’s to include St Lawrence College and representatives from neighbouring residential areas. This recommendation should go to council on April 19. The committee should have its inaugural meeting in June or during the summer. Representation will be sought from the Sydenham District Association, as well as from residents associations in Portsmouth, King’s Town and Williamsville.

I would welcome any comments and ideas you have about this issue. Please email me directly.
